Welcome to Primary
Our diverse and compassionate staff provide the ideal learning environment for students to explore their passions, develop holistically, and achieve their goals. In the classroom, we employ a dual-language and inquiry-based approach that aims to develop international-mindedness and a deep understanding and appreciation for Chinese education. Our curriculum follows the Chinese National Curriculum, and the teaching and learning in the classroom models the IB Primary Years Programme inquiry-based approach. As an IB school, we nurture our students to inquire, think independently, and take ownership of their learning. The rigorous academic standards of our school programme develop confident and knowledgeable students who are well-prepared for their transition to the MYP and beyond.
As the Head of Primary, I’m privileged to serve OCAC students in their primary years. Professionally I am thrilled to be at OCAC, a school that in many aspects is at the forefront of Chinese international education. I am very excited about the implementation of the integration of PYP & CNC and its transformational effect on student learning.
I’m aiming to lead the team to create an impact and define the integrated curriculum model not only for China but also for the Asia Pacific region.
Guided by the IB’s and OCAC Suzhou’s core philosophy, our curriculum provides opportunities for students to develop understandings of concepts, skills, knowledge, and learner profile attributes that will enable them to be lifelong learners. The distinctive feature of our curriculum, integrating the CNC with the IB’s curriculum framework, sets a platform for our students to retain their Chinese origins and at the same time, create and innovate globally.
We value the development of the whole child in all areas of learning. We are dedicated to nurturing our students in their social and emotional development, as well as in their creative, fitness, and academic programmes. At OCAC Suzhou, our students are challenged to think critically and be agents of their learning as well as develop an ability to take action. Our Primary curriculum is designed to prepare our students to become responsible and caring lifelong-learners, exemplifying the model of Chinese international education.
The homeroom teacher work in conjunction with subject teachers, student support teachers and parents to promote and support the well-being of every student.
We strive to build a safe, positive and friendly learning environment. Learning engagements such as lesson, class meeting, assembly, community service provides each of the student with sufficient opportunities to develop self-confidence, responsibility, empathy, and to learn to cooperate and to lead.
I’m pleased to have this opportunity to bring such benefit to OCAC Suzhou. I’m impressed by the clear identity and values that the school team embodies in practice beyond the written word. OCAC Suzhou is a learning community that extends its aspirations into a meaningful, effective, yet pleasant growth opportunity for all involved.
As a founding member of the academic staff, this is my fourth year in OCAC Suzhou. Along the way, I have grown and transformed with the school. I am very proud to say that under the guidance of China's national curriculum, we have gone back to our Chinese origins; with the guidance of IB PYP, we have set our sights on the world and made something with global originality. We are committed to building ever more internationally minded communities of learners and help young students to meet the challenges and opportunities in the future.
