Welcome to High School
We have a unique Grade 10 bridging program at OCAC Suzhou which is a targeted programme for mature, confident, academically strong students who have acquired a sufficient good level of academic English skills. G10 bridging programme at OCAC Suzhou combines the IGCSE and Pre-DP courses. Subjects of Grade 10 are grouped in 6 groups that align with the IB DP subject groups. Students have the opportunity of taking IGCSE exams in Chinese, English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics and Business studies at the end of the programme, so that they can transition seamlessly to both IBDP and A-level in the following 2 years.
We offer IBDP and A-Level Programme in OCAC Grade 11 and Grade 12.
IBDP (International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme) is a two-year programme. The programme aims to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge – students who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically.
Students must take 6 subjects, one from each group and 3 core elements which are unique to the IB programme: Theory of knowledge (TOK), Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), and the Extended Essay (EE). Group 6 is optional and a second additional subject may be taken from Group 3 or 4.
A-Level (General Certificate of Education Advanced Level) prepares students for education after high school. Obtaining an A-Level is generally required for university entrance in the UK.
The A-Level is typically a two-year programme:
In Year 1, students take the AS Level where they choose three to five subjects that they are most proficient and interested in and are granted an AS certificate after passing the exams.
In Year 2, students take the A2 Level where they are allowed to study three to four A2 level subjects in their chosen subjects from AS Level and are granted the A-Level certificate after passing the exams.
As and A2 marks both account for a certain percentage of the final A-Level mark.
HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR PROGRAMME
The A-Level and IB Diploma Programme (DP) will be parallel in our high school, allowing students to find a more compatible pathway according to their own interests. As a well-established IB DP school, we integrate A-Level with IB so that these two programmes can benefit each other by sharing resources.
1.Both A-Level and IB DP students can take Language B, which is recognized by leading universities such as Oxford, Imperial College London, LSE and UCL.
2.A-Level students can enrich their personal portfolio with more extra-curricular experiences by taking CAS of IB DP (optional).
3.Both A-Level and IB DP students can prepare themselves for future studies at university through IPQ/EPQ by accessing a wide range of essay resources and professional essay tutors.
4. Students in the Leading Programme will have professional academic mentors for planning and specialized training, and the opportunities to attend various academic competitions.
