Introduction

Overseas Chinese Academy of Chiway Suzhou was established in order to better meet the international education needs of the children of overseas Chinese returnees and leading talents and other high-level talents in the greater Yangtze Delta region. With substantial support from the government of Suzhou Industrial Park, Chiway Education Group and China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park Development Co., Ltd. (CSSD) have co-founded OCAC Suzhou in April 2016. This is also the first school to be specially built for children of overseas Chinese and returnees and students who wish to receive Chinese international education.

In September 2017, the north campus of the school was officially opened for primary students. In May 2018, with thecompletion of the South Campus and the expansion of the scope of the school, the school as a whole expanded to theSouth Campus and officially became a private-owned and non-profit K-12 school. The school covers an area of 66 acres,construction area of more than 50,000 square meters, can accommodate up to 2300 students. The school implements smallclass bilingual teaching, each class does not exceed 24 students.

In May 2018, the school was authorized as an IB DP school, in August 2020, the school was authorized as an IB PYP school. It is expected that our school will be authorized as an IB MYP school in 2022, thus becoming the only IB world school in Suzhou region. In 2020 and 2021, the school won the Hurun Education Top 100 Chinese International School for two consecutive years and is the only school in SIP on the list. In March 2021, the school was authorized to become an NSDA Member School (National Speech and Debate Association). 

In September 2021, the number of students enrolled in the school has exceeded 2,000. The school has around 400 staff, including 300 full-time teachers, of whom one third are expatriate teachers from 28 countries and regions. The ratio of master’s degree and above for the whole school is 70%, and the average teaching age of teachers in whole school is 10 years.

“Chinese Origins, Global Originality”, the school is committed to cultivate proactive, holistic development of life-longlearners, so that they can work with young people from all around the world in the future to solve the world issues in the21st century. In the four years of operation, the school achieved full coverage of 15 grades in 2021, and has its first 19 graduates, with outstanding academic results. First graduates have received a total of approximately 3.55 million RMB university scholarships by virtue of outstanding comprehensive qualities and background, and received 130 admissions from world-famous universities including Cambridge University, Imperial College, University of the Arts London, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Berklee College of Music, New York Film Academy, University of Washington, Mount Holyoke College, University of Toronto, University of Melbourne, University of Sydney, etc. , with two students achieve perfect scores in IB Global Examinations. Graduates achieve an average IB score of 37.2, well above the world average.

“Staying true to our founding mission “, our school has been closely following the development of SIP, and activelyrespond to build a talent highland strategic planning. In 2021, more than 50% of our students come from families with returnee’s background, and half of them have a master’s degree or doctorate or higher. There are in total more than 200 groups of children from the high-level talents identified by the SIP’s Organization Department are enrolled in our school. OCAC-Suzhou has become a unique school for education of children of high-level talents.

Since its foundation, the school has always adhered to the Chinese national curriculum as the program and content, integration of inquiry-based teaching model, student-oriented and deep-cultivated education. The school has explored a path of Chinese international education over the past four years, and finally highly recognized by virtue of excellent teaching quality and school results by parents, society and educational industry, becoming a unique international education business in the SIP and even in Suzhou.
